| Minicone CPT Our 2cm2 miniature cone penetrometer (MCPT) system provides the same valuable stratigraphic detail and soil strength information as our large diameter cone penetrometers. It may be deployed from a wide variety of barges, work boats and all terrain vehicles for land use. | | The MCPT is a very cost effective tool for determining near surface soil strength information. Penetration reaction is provided by the weight of the self righting seabed deployment frame. The MCPT is attached to a coiled rod which is straightened and pushed into the sea floor by a thruster unit attached to the seabed frame. This same unit coils the rod while it retracts the cone. The coiled rod and thruster unit allow for a rapid continuous deployment of the system while keeping the overall size of the unit to a minimum. | |
In its marine configuration the MCPT is capable to operate in water depths to 10,000’, with a maximum penetration depth of 35’ below mudline and a maximum tip resistance of approximately 350 tsf. It is controlled and powered from the surface through an electromechanical umbilical which provides the power and digital control and transmits soil data to a data acquisition system on the host vessel. The MCPT can also be operated from the seabed using an ROV. It is ideally suited to cable route and dredge surveys. | | | | Minicone shown on Sea Floor Systems |
For use on land, the MCPT can be used in conjunction with Direct Push and all terrain equipment to compliment the full suite of sampling capabilities for both geotechnical and environmental sites with limited or difficult access.
