Eagle Mine Electrical Conductivity, CPT & Fast Vane
Acquired by Lundin Mining in 2013, Eagle is an underground mine producing nickel and copper concentrates. Gregg was contracted to conduct a site investigation program including Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) and vane testing. Gregg secured a rental barge to mobilize a compact, yet powerful Geoprobe drill rig. For increased economy, CPTs were deployed via the drill rig which was able to drill and complete vane testing at select depths. Three CPTs ranged in depth from 32, 38 and 99ft. Eight vane tests were completed using the new fast-vane system to ensure undrained tests. An A.P. van den Berg electrical conductivity module was used to measure conductivity and specific conductance. Samples pored water from discrete locations.
Highlights
- Fast-vane utilized in silty-soils at high speeds to ensure undrained conditions (paper submitted to TMW’22)
- Deployed electrical conductivity module with the cone for measuring specific conductance.
