Multi-level Well Completions

While holding the on-call contract with California’s Department of Water Resources (DWR), Gregg was called-up to drill and install a number of multi-level completion wells near Cuyama, CA over a 3-month period of time in 2021.

The initial pilot hole was drilled using an 8- to 10-inch-diameter bit to the depth of bedrock or 1,500 feet bgs, whichever is shallower. The preliminary well completion depths were 300 to 340 feet bgs, 800 to 840 feet bgs, and 1,300 to 1,340 feet bgs. Downhole temperatures were expected to exceed 140 degrees. To cope with the high temperatures, Gregg used steel and C-PVC as it has a higher thermal rating. Prior to drilling, Gregg Drilling installed silt fencing around the site perimeter to comply with BLM requirements for keeping species of concern, which include desert tortoise and Mohave ground squirrel, out of the site.
