Ocean Wind 1 Project, New Jersey

In the summer of 2002, Sealaska, helped invest in clean energy with their work on the Ocean Wind 1 project in New Jersey. Gregg Drilling, an integral part of Sealaska’s Woocheen hydro sciences group, conducted a successful geotechnical survey to aid in the design and placement of cables to carry power from offshore wind turbines to shore. The innovative solution to working in the shallow waters of the Indian River Bay was to deploy Gregg’s amphibious tracked carrier that is able to traverse beach and swamp group and float in 1.5m of water.

• 14 CPTs and 20 boreholes completed to 20ft below mudline using a single spread in water depths up to 15ft
• Floating amphibious carrier to protect fragile eel grass and habitat
• Operations around popular State Beach Park required dealing with crowds and beach-goers
• Organized and efficient operation to not affect peak beach season after 4th of July
