San Diego Airport Geotechnical Investigation

In 2021, Gregg Drilling was contracted through Kleinfelder to perform a geotechnical site investigation at the San Diego Airport for structural improvements to gates 46 & 47. The work was performed in conjunction with ARRIVE (San Diego Aviation Alliance).

Due to the nature of working near and adjacent to the airport runways, all the drilling and testing operations were conducted at night within a strict time-frame. This required specific timing for mobilization and removal of all equipment from the site each day.

Gregg Drilling worked with the Local 12 union as well as non-union personnel to conduct 42 CPTs up to 140ft in depth with one seismic CPT up to 110ft. Seven rotary borings were completed to 100ft with SPT and Modified California sampling.
